Joe Yabuki, the fateful rival he encountered at the juvenile detention center, crossed paths with Rikiishi Toru.
After a duel within the facility, they faced each other in the professional ring. In the midst of their deadly battle, Joe’s signature cross-counter was met with an even more devastating triple cross from Rikiishi.
“It’s over… everything…” Rikiishi muttered to himself. Joe, who had lost his lifelong rival and close friend due to the punch to the temple he delivered, was filled with unimaginable sorrow and regret.
Joe, reminiscent of his days before meeting Danpei Tange, sets out on another journey of wandering alone. Waiting for Joe, who may return at any moment, are Danpei, Sachiko, Kinoko, and the other kids from the gym.
Joe’s Return and Helping Wolf: After half a year of wandering, Joe returns close to where everyone is waiting. At this time, he encounters Wolf Kanagushi, whom he once fought in the professional ring.
Subsequently, Wolf retired from boxing and became a yakuza bodyguard. Like many others, Wolf’s life was also changed by Joe. However, it was obvious that he couldn’t compete with the future champion candidate, given his thug-like appearance.
When Wolf complains about losing to Joe, both sides of thugs and bodyguards join in. From Goromaki Gondo’s quiet demeanor, a strong atmosphere emanates.
When the fight starts, Joe deliberately takes Wolf’s punch, taunting that if that’s all he’s got, he can’t beat Rikiishi. Joe turns the tables by kicking Wolf’s chin, exploiting his greatest weakness, and causing him to writhe in agony.
In the midst of Gondo’s Goromaki Kill technique, when it seems Wolf might die, Joe intervenes.
Gondo quietly speaks to Joe, noting that while Wolf’s eyes are clinging to past glory, Joe’s eyes still sparkle with determination.
Upon hearing this, Joe delivers two powerful body blows to Gondo. Satisfied, Gondo remarks that this is what a boxer’s punch should be like, as he kneels down.
As the police arrive in response to the commotion, Gondo saves Joe from trouble. In the pouring rain, Gondo expresses his desire to see Joe fight again someday.
Gondo’s words may have played a part in Joe’s decision to return to Danpei’s old man and Mammoth Nishi. Joe casually mentions visiting the slums occasionally.
The next morning, when Joe visits the Danpei Boxing Club, Danpei and Nishi are so surprised and happy that they fall off the ladder twice.
Joe’s return to the nostalgic slums, Tearful Bridge, marks the beginning of a new life filled with both pain and passion for boxing!
