The 20th anniversary memorial event of Rampage Dragon Shingo Takagi will be held in his hometown of Yamanashi on September 7th!
When it comes to Yamanashi, the first name that comes to mind is the genius Keiji Mutoh, but there wasn’t much of an appeal in that regard.
Takagi often emphasizes his connection to Yamanashi, which makes a lasting impression.
When I previously traveled to the Kofu area of Yamanashi, I saw a huge billboard featuring Shingo Takagi.
Debuting in Dragon Gate, he repeatedly won the top Dream Gate championship and later joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he connected with the uncontrollable charismatic figure of the same generation, Tetsuya Naito (Animal Hamaguchi Gym).
Since then, he has held numerous titles, including the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, displaying his “Jaiyanizumu” both inside and outside the ring (laughs).
He is an indispensable wrestler not only in New Japan but also in the wrestling world.
At the last Yamanashi event, he said you won’t be able to return empty-handed next time and currently holds the NEVER Openweight Championship.
Furthermore, depending on the results of the Taiwan event, he may become a double champion (NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championship).
Nevertheless, for the ambitious dragon, it might still not be enough from a fan’s perspective.
With the G1 Climax victory still eluding him, he will undoubtedly aim for it with even more determination.
I’m extremely excited to see what kind of matches will be scheduled for the Yamanashi memorial event!!
