The Last Assassin Approaching Asuka Fist!
Asuka Fist, a martial arts fanatic, has pursued the pinnacle of superhumanity by leaving Japan to engage in fierce battles with fighters worldwide.
After concluding battles around the world, she returned to Japan with the aim of promoting Asuka Karate, establishing her own dojo as a master.
Despite the challenges posed by her rough-and-tumble students, Asuka faced the difficulty of teaching firsthand.
As she garnered fame and strength, challengers, including a formidable Tai Chi practitioner, sought to test her prowess.
However, Asuka, having mastered the art of strategic withdrawal, overcame them all.
Entering her thirties, Asuka began to feel the gradual decline of her strength. This deviation from the typical young hero narrative in manga was a fresh take, demonstrating that even masters are not eternal.
In Asuka’s absence, a father-and-son duo proficient in their own martial art arrived to challenge her dojo.
As Asuka returned to the world stage, she emphasized the prohibition of private duels in Asuka Karate to her students.
Despite their efforts, none of her students could defeat the martial artists who disparaged Asuka Karate. Just when it seemed that Asuka’s strength and honor would be tarnished, she returned in the nick of time.
In the final battle, Asuka faced her opponent’s formidable strength and attacks.
However, with a resolute spirit and the skill of strategic withdrawal, Asuka delivered a decisive blow with her aerial kick, defeating her opponent.
After the match, Asuka realized that she was no longer the Asuka of her twenties.
Yet, she embraced this new phase of her life, declaring her commitment to remain a karateka forever. Entrusting her dojo to her students, she embarked once again into the tumultuous world, akin to a soaring bird.
This conclusion, reminiscent of the masterpiece “Tiger Mask” by Ikki Kajiwara, highlights the eternal pursuit of becoming the world’s strongest karateka, epitomized by Asuka Fist.
Postscript: Reflecting on “Asuka Fist: A Karate Fanatic’s Tale”
Before watching “Asuka Fist: A Karate Fanatic’s Tale,” my knowledge of karate was limited to Kyokushin Karate and tales of Masutatsu Oyama, making the anime a fresh experience for me.
Starting from the post-war ruins and delving into the world of yakuza bodyguards, the initial storyline was surprising.
However, as the narrative unfolded, it became clear that Asuka’s unyielding spirit and pure heart not only purified her opponents’ souls but also fostered friendships even amidst conflicts.
While the story shares similarities with “Ashita no Joe,” it resonates more with the audacity of “Tiger Mask.”
Despite the outdated language, I was able to enjoy the anime without feeling its age.
Watching “Asuka Fist: A Karate Fanatic’s Tale” until the end during the “50th Anniversary of Manga Serialization” was truly satisfying. Osu!
